The core element of the PROGRASS project is the technical approach. With the concept of the “Integrated Generation of Solid Fuel and Biogas from Biomass” (IFBB) biomass from semi-natural grassland can be used efficiently:
- Separation of the ensiled biomass in a solid fibrous fraction (press cake) to be used as solid fuel and a fluid biologically convertible fraction (press fluid) for biogas production
- Supply of a fuel with improved combustion characteristics compared to untreated herbaceous biomass fuel (e.g. hay)
- High biogas yield with the fermentation of press fluid
- Prevention of unused waste heat of combined heat and power plant through year-round drying of the press cake
- Little residual quantities
